Healthy homemade recipes for baking dog biscuits
Feeding your dog a little treat isn't a bad thing when they are healthy & baked fresh at home! Making treats and biscuits for your dog will allow you to know exactly what is in the biscuit and you can feel good by knowing that these recipes have the healthiest ingredients.
Choosing a favourite recipe can be difficult as there is such a variety of recipes available online. We have limited our top recipes to include just 5 ingredients or less and they are easy to make.
Homemade grain-free peanut butter dog biscuits
Our most popular peanut butter recipe for dog biscuits is packed with vitamins, protein, fibre, and potassium. By using chickpea flour as an alternative to wheat flour, these biscuits will be gluten-free as well as lower in carbohydrates.
Ingredients:
- 1 medium banana
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter with no added sugar
- 1 cup chickpea flour (add a pinch of baking soda)
- 1/2 cup coconut flour
Preheat your oven to 180 degrees.
Using a large mixing bowl, start by mashing the banana using a fork or potato masher.
Beat in the 2 eggs followed by the peanut butter. Combine until smooth.
Fold in the flour's with a pinch of baking soda to help them rise slightly, the mix will appear dry. When combined, take the biscuit dough and knead this on a kitchen bench.
Now it's time for you to form your biscuits. You can roll out with a rolling pin and use a cookie cutter in any shape you like, we love using our dog bone shape. Alternatively, you can make round biscuits using a glass as your biscuit cutter.
Place on a baking tray and bake for 10-15 minutes. Baking time will depend on the shape, width and your ovens range.
Cool on an airing rack.
When cool, store biscuits in an airtight container for up to 1 week-if they last that long!
Beef or chicken flavoured dog biscuit recipe
- 2 cups whole meal flour
- 3 tablespoons oats
- 1 egg
- ⅔ cup chicken or beef bone broth
Preheat your oven to 180 degrees.
Using a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients together.
Add the egg & bone broth, mix well.
Using a rolling pin, roll the biscuit dough out onto a lightly floured surface or baking paper.
Cut into any shape using a biscuit cutter or glass.
Add the chicken breast sprinkles to the top of the biscuits.
Place the biscuits onto a baking tray and bake for 10 minutes or until cooked.
Store in an airtight container. These biscuits will keep for up to 7 days.
Pumpkin dog biscuits recipe
Pumpkin is a great ingredient for dogs that are always hungry! It is low in fat and high in fibre to keep your dog feeling full.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup pumpkin puree
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup peanut butter
- 2 cups whole meal flour
Preheat over to 180 degrees.
Using a large mixing bowl, start by cooking your pumpkin by either boiling or steaming in a microwave oven. Allow to cool and puree using a stick blender.
Beat in the 2 eggs followed by the peanut butter. Combine until smooth.
Fold in the flour. When combined, take the biscuit dough and knead this on a kitchen bench.
